Wet & Forget Outdoor: Mold and Mildew’s Worst Nightmare

Mold and mildew will make a disgusting mess out of just about any outdoor surface. All it takes is a little shade and plenty of moisture for mold and mildew to set in and turn attractive bricks into slimy eyesores, comfortable patio cushions into smelly, stained embarrassments, or a beautiful poolside deck into a slippery hazard. Using bleach or pressure washing to remove mold and mildew just leads to an endless cycle of cleaning and re-cleaning, and sometimes can even damage the surface you’re trying to clean. Wet & Forget Outdoor annihilates mold and mildew without damaging your outdoor surfaces, and with no scrubbing or power washing needed. Read on to find out how!

What Are Mold and Mildew?

Shed-Algae
There’s no difference between mold and mildew; both are words we use to describe a disgusting, slimy fungal growth. This fungus can grow just about anyplace where there’s moisture and a lack of direct sunlight, and can be black, gray, greenish, white or rust-colored. Outdoors, mold and mildew can grow on the side of your house, on the shady part of your porch, on your deck furniture cushions, and many other places. Wherever it grows, mold and mildew looks disgusting and smells awful.

Craig in Chicopee, Massachusetts had a heck of a time figuring out how to remove black mold from his porch’s white wooden railings and spindles:

“The white railings and spindles on my front porch had black moldy spots all over them I would try to clean them with bleach and a lot of elbow grease. I saw Wet and Forget on Amazon and decided to try it. I was skeptical, but the mold is now all gone! It can take a few months, but there is practically no effort needed. I also used it on my shed roof which was all green. It worked there too, but took even less time to work. Great stuff!”

A customer in New Jersey had a similar problem with mold and mildew on his porch and cement walkway, until he tried Wet & Forget:

“I live in a townhouse with a cement walkway and porch that get no sun. As you can imagine the mold and mildew built up so much they were an ugly green/brown color. I tried different removal recommendations, but nothing worked. About 1 year ago I purchased this product. I followed the directions and have a spanking clean walkway and porch. Easy to apply and very happy with the results. It’s been very humid and wet in NJ this summer so there is a slight buildup of some mildew. I will apply it again. By the way some of my neighbors have hired “professional power washing companies” whose results are far inferior to mine. Highly recommended.”

What Makes Wet & Forget So Much Better than Bleaching or Pressure Washing?

mold and mildew cleaned up
It’s no surprise that Wet & Forget Outdoor produced such superior results compared to the neighbors’ professional pressure washing. That’s because, no matter how well they do their job, pressure washers aren’t doing anything to prevent mold and mildew from coming back. This means that, almost from the moment the professional cleaners pulled out of the neighbors’ driveway, the mold and mildew started re-growing. This starts the cycle of cleaning and re-cleaning that is a real pain, and can get pretty expensive. And if you try to save money and do the pressure washing yourself, one wrong move with the pressure washer can accidentally knock loose your home’s siding, rain gutters or downspouts, costing you more money and inconvenience.

Bleach is no better. Using bleach to get rid of mold and mildew can irritate your eyes, nose and skin, bleach your clothes, and damage some outdoor surfaces. Using bleach on outdoor furniture cushions can permanently stain them or even eat holes in the fabric, and bleach runoff after the next rain can kill your lawn. And, like pressure washing, bleach does not prevent mold and mildew from coming back.

Wet & Forget Outdoor helps you break free from the clean/re-clean cycle that bleach or pressure washing will leave you stuck in. That’s because Wet & Forget Outdoor works with the wind and the rain to remove mold and mildew over time, and keep it from coming back for a year or more in most cases. So, while your neighbor is pressure washing his deck again, you’ll be out lounging on yours, sipping iced tea. Better yet, Wet & Forget’s gentle, non-caustic formula gives you peace of mind, because it defeats mold and mildew without harming your outdoor surfaces.

How to Apply Wet & Forget Outdoor

Wet & Forget Outdoor Cleaner makes removing mold and mildew a snap. No elbow grease is needed, and the only tool you need is a basic pump-up garden sprayer.

Here’s how:

  1. Mix 1 part Wet & Forget Outdoor with 5 parts water in a pump-up garden sprayer.
  2. Saturate the affected area with the diluted Wet & Forget at a time that allows the surface 4 to 5 hours to dry before the threat of rain.
  3. Walk away, and let Wet & Forget Outdoor annihilate the mold and mildew.
  4. Re-treat once a year, or at the first sign or re-growth.

      Hi Tom,
Wet & Forget is best applied with a garden pump sprayer. I would first fill the sprayer with Wet & Forget and then fill with water. If you have any more questions feel free to give our office a call at 888-727-8524.

Can you use a pressure washer to apply wet & forget to the upper stories of a house?

      Hi Nikli,
Wet & Forget requires a 5:1 dilution rate. Most pressure washers cannot facilitate a 5:1 and dilute the product too far. If you have an attachment on your pressure washer that allows you to draw out of a pre-mixed container of Wet & Forget (without an incoming water source) you can use your pressure washer to apply it. You can also use a trombone sprayer to apply the product to higher areas from the ground. A trombone sprayer will reach greater distances than a garden pump up sprayer while still using the 5:1 dilution rate.

      Hi Bonnie,
During the application process of Wet & Forget, we recommend keeping pets and people off of the surface until the surface has dried (4-5 hrs). Once the surface is dry, people and pets can return to the surface.
