Our Wet & Forget Fan of the Month for December is New York resident Larry Fasnacht. Larry had struggled for years with moss and lichen covering his roof. He got stuck in the never-ending cycle of cleaning and re-cleaning his roof, until he saw the impressive results his neighbors got using Wet & Forget Outdoor. Larry decided to give Wet & Forget Outdoor a try, and he was shocked by what happened next! Read on to hear Larry’s story.
“This product is fantastic. I don’t understand the people who say otherwise. My neighbor did his very bad roof, under hot, sunny conditions and had very good results. I did my roof under the conditions you describe and I am amazed by the effectiveness of the product on heavy moss and lichen. I normally write only when I am dissatisfied. This product demands an exception. Thank you for this product.”

Moss and Lichen Spell Disaster for Your Roof
Moss and lichen may not look like a big deal at first but, before you know it, they can spread out and completely take over your roof (see photo above). These invasive growths not only look bad when they infest your roof–they can also cause damage that will lead to costly roof repairs, water damage in your home, or even a roof replacement. Ouch!
Lichen attaches to your roof’s shingles with a very stubborn grip, and can cause pitting on the shingles’ surfaces. Moss’s root-like structures penetrate the shingles’ surface, which can damage many types of shingles and cause asphalt shingles to shed their granules. Moss can also spread to the cracks between and underneath your roof’s shingles, causing them to lift free from the roof’s membrane. That can spell disaster for your roof!
The Problems with the Bleach Bottle and the Pressure Washer
For years, Larry had been using a bleach solution to combat moss and lichen on his roof. Not only was bleach a hassle to use, it also left Larry fighting a losing battle against moss and lichen. “It seemed to work at first, but it never lasted,” Larry said. That’s because, while bleach can sometimes kill certain growths in the short term, it does nothing to prevent them from growing right back. This means that the moss and lichen started growing on Larry’s roof again almost from the moment he climbed back down his ladder. With bleach, Larry found himself climbing back up onto the roof again and again, when he could have been relaxing on the deck or having friends over for a barbecue. Not fun!
Not only was bleach a never-ending battle for Larry, he was also risking other potential problems. Bleach is a caustic chemical that can cause excess wear and tear on some shingles, making an expensive roof replacement necessary sooner. Bleach runoff from the roof can also corrode your home’s downspouts, and even kill parts of your lawn.
Larry could have tried a pressure washer, but he decided that it wasn’t a good option for his roof. Pressure washers are difficult to lug up the ladder, and one wrong move with a pressure washer can knock your rain gutters loose or tear shingles off your roof. Larry had even tried scraping the lichen off his roof, but he soon realized what a tough grip this stubborn growth has. “I scraped some off, and saw that a layer of shingle came off right along with it!” he exclaimed. Larry wanted to protect his roof, not damage it, so he was happy to hear about Wet & Forget Outdoor.
How Larry Left the Bleach Behind
Larry found out about Wet & Forget Outdoor Cleaner when his next-door neighbor used it on his roof. Larry was impressed with the results, and decided to try Wet & Forget Outdoor this fall on the roof of his home in upstate New York, as well as on the roof of his tool shed in Pennsylvania.
We called Larry to talk with him about his experience using Wet & Forget Outdoor, and he was thrilled with the results. “I started getting results much quicker than I expected,” he said. “It really put the brakes on the growth right away, and it just started to disappear,” Larry explained.
And the small amount of remaining moss? “It has a look of death to it,” Larry said with great satisfaction. Larry knows that the remaining moss’s days are numbered.
How to Kill Moss and Lichen with Wet & Forget Outdoor
Moss and lichen both attach themselves to your roof with a powerful grip, and using force to remove them can cause more harm than good to your roof. Wet & Forget works with the wind and rain to kill these destructive growths over time, and cause them to release their grip on your shingles.
Wet & Forget’s gentle, non-caustic formula kills growths on your roof without damaging your shingles, corroding your downspouts, or killing your lawn. Defeating moss and lichen is a breeze with Wet & Forget Outdoor: simply spray and walk away, and Wet & Forget does all the work for you. Best of all, Wet & Forget Outdoor keeps on working after the growths are gone, preventing them from coming back for a year or more in most cases. No more vicious cycle of cleaning and re-cleaning! You have better things to do.
