All About Sprayers

5 January 2010 16 Comments

Backpack SprayerConsidering just how much growth some of us have on and around the outside of our homes, it can sometimes take quite a while to apply Wet & Forget to all the surfaces that need attention. In these cases, a pump-up sprayer can definitely work, but it’s not the most efficient option. That’s when a backpack sprayer (like the one pictured at left) can really come in handy.

A backpack sprayer reaches farther and has better coverage, meaning there’s less work for you during the application process. It has a higher capacity to hold more Wet & Forget (saving you the extra refill time), it frees up the hand that would normally be carrying the pump-up sprayer, and it’s easier to maneuver around the property with the sprayer on your back instead of at your side.

Other important things to note:

  • Do not use a hose end sprayer because it won’t be able to get the correct 5:1 dilution rate that is required when applying Wet & Forget. In other words, you will not get enough product on the surface to do any good.
  • For commercial applications an agricultural sprayer with a diaphragm pump can also be used, such as the kind landscapers use to apply fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
  • You can store Wet & Forget in your sprayer indefinitely; it will not corrode the sprayer.
  • You can also use a pump-up sprayer that was previously used for a different project. Just triple rinse it before and after using Wet & Forget.
  • Pump up sprayers and backpack sprayers make it easier to control the spray when applying Wet & Forget to the surface.

Whether you’re using it in a pump up or a backpack sprayer, Wet & Forget is the ultimate outdoor moss, mold, mildew and algae stain remover. Read more about our product, visit our photo gallery and store locator, or sign up for our elist by visiting wetandforget.com

We have a 2500 sq ft patio that is unpolished terrazzo (black with small stones of granite, quartz and marble). It has been there over 40 yrs. We have a maple tree over it, (forgot to have the tree people spray the pre-emergent oil to prevent them), that had a big infestation of the insects that cause scale and the patio is now totally black. Of course, it also has some mildew, mold etc. Will Wet and Forget take off this scale efficiently and quickly? We have had it waterblasted in the past, but it costs a small fortune. Please answer quick…..Thanks a million.

    Hi Kay,

Thanks for your inquiry. Wet & Forget is a moss, mold, mildew and algae stain remover. It will work on any organic growths you have on the patio: moss, mold, mildew, etc. Wet & Forget will not remove residue left from an insect infestation. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
    Thank you!

Hi: Can I use Wet & Forget on my Sunbrella awning to clean off pollen that accumulates at the edge of the awning every year? I usually scrub it with soap and water and a small brush and then spray with a water repellant. If so, can I then spray the awning with a water repellant once the Wet & Forget dries? Please advise. Thanks.

    Hi Carol,

Thanks for writing in with your question. Wet & Forget works on organic growths only: moss, mold, mildew, algae and lichen. It will not work on pollen or leaf stains. However, if you have any mold or mildew on your Sunbrella awning, Wet & Forget would be a good product to take care of those types of infestations. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Can we apply Web&Forget to small areas of concrete and wood with a brush or sponge mop if we don’t have a sprayer?
    Thanks.

  • Luke said:

    Hi Nancy,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. The best way to apply Wet & Forget is with a pump up garden sprayer. If you have a very small area, you could also use a small spray bottle. Mix the Wet & Forget 1 part to 5 parts water, just as you would in a pump up garden sprayer. If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Will it work if the correct mix is painted onto a surface? I don’t like to work with sprayers.
    Thank you.

  • Luke said:

    Hi Nancy,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. We do not recommend using a brush for applying Wet & Forget, as it does not cover the area you are treating as well as a sprayer. If you use a paint brush to apply the product, be sure you cover all areas you are treating well and saturate the surface completely with the Wet & Forget solution. Porous surfaces will soak up more of the solution which means you will need to apply a generous amount with a brush. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

I live in an extremely foggy area, andI am planning to use your product to clean algae stains off my house. I have two questions: 1) Does it work on stucco? 2) I can cover and rinse the plants around my house, but what about soil contamnation? Can that harm my plants and yard?

  • Andrew said:

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for contacting us with your questions. Yes Wet & Forget can be used on Stucco. In fact, it can be used on any exterior surface because it’s a gentle product with a pH of 8. In regards to your second question, rest assured Wet & Forget will not leach into the soil and contaminate your plants and yard. If you have any further questions or concerns please let us know.

I have a two story house with a very high pitched roof. I have used your product on all of my patios and have been amazed by the results. I now have Moss and Mildew growing on one side of the high pitched roof. Id there any sprayer’s that you know of that have a 10′ or so spray distance that I can use Wet and Forget roof. The roof is way to pitched for me to stand on it and would very much like to apply Wet and Forget.

Look forward to your response. Thank You !!

    Hi Vic,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Wet & Forget is best applied with a pump up garden sprayer, backpack sprayer, or commercial agricultural sprayer with a diaphragm pump system. The reason we recommend these types of sprayers is because Wet & Forget requires a 5:1 dilution rate. Most pressure washers and hose end sprayers cannot facilitate a 5:1 and dilute the product too far. If you have an attachment on your pressure washer that allows you to draw out of a pre-mixed container of Wet & Forget (without an incoming water source) you can use your pressure washer to apply it. Backpack sprayers also tend to spray a farther distance than pump up garden sprayers. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

Is Wet and Forget effective as a pre-emptive cleaner? I finally got my two-story vinyl-sided house pressure washed and I’m considering applying Wet and Forget on all the shaded sides to prevent algae & mold growth in the future.

  • Luke said:

    Hi Phil,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Wet & Forget is specifically designed as a moss, mold and mildew cleaner. If you apply it to an area where you have already power washed, it will clean off any of the mold and mildew residue the power washing did not take care of. On average, the product lasts 12-18 months before a second application is needed. Then just simply re-apply at the first sign of mold and mildew re-growth. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.

I know to take care to keep pets off freshly applied and still wet surfaces treated with Wet & Forget.

I have a wood deck and large rocks surrounding a koi pond that is severely coated with algae and lichen. Will drifts and a little overspray of Wet & Forget solution into the pond be detrimental to my kois?

  • Wet and Forget said:

    Hi E,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. We do not recommend using Wet & Forget near ponds or in fountains and water features that have fish in them. You can use Wet & Forget on the other surfaces around your home where you have moss, mold and mildew. If you have further questions, let us know.
