A Wonderful Letter from Ray in Missouri

Good morning Luke,

I will try to give you more information than you need or want, this is just my style. I was appointed board president of a cemetery in Missouri on April 1, 2009. I was born and raised in this area, but left in 1961 and returned in 2000.

Last year, the former board president suddenly died of a heart attack. His spouse did not care to continue to care for the cemetery, nor did she think that she could. They were in place for over 20 years. With me taking charge, I had new ideas and saw several things that needed to be addressed, including old grave marker stones that were covered with mildew and moss.

The stones had been neglected for many, many years. The cemetery was established in the late 1800’s. The older stones appear to be made from limestone or some other very porous material. The years of “weather wear” and mildew on the stones would not allow one to read crucial information such as names and dates. My first thought: What a disgrace to the cemetery and to families that come to decorate on Memorial Day.

My first approach to start cleaning the stones was to use diluted household bleach. Then I tried straight bleach, and still this wasn’t cutting it. After that, I tried many RV mildew cleaning products. Finally I resorted to ammonia, vinegar and anything else that read “mildew remover” on the label. This madness took many hours and many miles. Even when it “worked,” one could still see the black embedded in the pores of the stones.

By now, I had researched every lead on the Internet that mentioned “How to clean cemetery stones.” Suddenly, I got lucky! I was at my local hardware store, looking for something, and I just asked during out trip through the store, “Do you have anything that really works well on mildew?” He replied, “We just got this stuff in, it’s called Wet and Forget, I have not personally tried it, but I hear that it works really well.”

They only had the half-gallon size in stock. I purchased one container and headed to the cemetery to apply, following the most unusual instructions. Basically, it said “Mildew and Moss remover for dummies.” I could not believe that the label says “no scrubbing required,” just apply according to directions and let the rain and wind do the cleaning.

Within just a few days, I could see the cleaning action taking place. To date, I have purchased 16 gallons of Wet and Forget and I am just amazed, before my eyes, that every single old and unreadable gravestone now has clearly legible names, dates, map and index. The mapping and indexing will provide a reference and cross-reference of marker location. We should find this very helpful for families that are unfamiliar with their loved one’s grave location. Thank you Wet and Forget and we will continue to use when needed.

Sorry that this is so long but you had to hear the whole story. By now, I must be your best silent salesman. I have told so many folks about your product and I have gotten feedback with positive results. I hope that my testimony will be helpful to others. Today, It is so gratifying to purchase a product that lives up to its promise. THANK YOU AGAIN AND THANK GOD.

- Ray Cunningham, Ava, Missouri.

My friend Ray Cunningham also referred me to “Wet and Forget” for my concrete patio. I have applied it to my patio, Hardiback house siding (which is concrete based), aluminum camper and have had amazing results. The surfaces are bright and clean and I don’t have to power-wash them that requires several hours and lasts only a short time. I have also told local stores that they should carry this item in stock. It is a good product and does very well when the instructions are followed. You actually do just spray it on and forget about it and it is safe to use.
