How Exactly Do You Apply Wet & Forget?

Applying Wet & Forget

Wet & Forget is the easiest way to eliminate green and black growths from the outside of your home. Not exactly sure how to apply Wet & Forget Moss, Mold, Mildew And Algae Stain Remover to outdoor surfaces? Wet & Forget is extremely easy and only takes a few simple steps, we’ll start with the mixing instructions.

Mixing Instructions

Wet & Forget’s mixing ratio is 1 part Wet & Forget to 5 parts water. For a 1-Gallon sized garden pump sprayer, pour 20 oz (2.5 cups) of Wet & Forget into your sprayer. Next, fill the sprayer with water to the 1-Gallon marker and you’re ready to go. If you have a larger sprayer you can multiply the mix.  For example, a 2-Gallon sprayer would require 40 oz (5 cups) of Wet & Forget, filled with water to the 2-gallon mark.  If you have questions on mixing or application feel free to give us a call at 888-727-8524 and we will gladly walk you through the process. Now on to the application of Wet & Forget.

How To Apply Wet & Forget

Wet & Forget is applied with a garden pump sprayer. After you’ve mixed with water, you’re almost ready to get started. You just want to make sure of a few things before spraying:

  • First, make sure you are applying to a dry surface and there’s no rain in the forecast for 5-6 hours after applying Wet & Forget. For a good application, you want to thoroughly saturate the surface and leave it to slowly dry on it’s own.
  • Second, if it’s a scorcher and the sun is baking on the surface, it’s not a good day to apply as your application will evaporate too quickly.
  • The third and final step is to make sure you’re applying to an organic growth-  either moss, mold, mildew, algae or lichen.  Wet & Forget will not remove rust stains or dirt. Most growths require one good heavy application of Wet & Forget where as lichen requires a second application 15 minutes after the first. Lichen is a special growth that opens up and exposes it’s root system after the first application, so a second spray down is very important.

What’s Next?

Spend time with friends and family, binge watch every episode of your favorite show on Netflix, or try doing one of our world famous DIY projects. The surfaces you’ve applied to are most likely going to get rainfall so there’s nothing left to do but have some patience and wait on the rain to do the hard work for you.  No time to wait? In a bit of a hurry to get the surface clean? Give Wet & Forget a week or two to start working,  then you can grab your water hose and give it a good rinsing. You can even reach for the scrub brush and give Mother Nature a little nudge.

I have a composite deck and part of it is under cover. after I apply the wet & forget how long do I wait to spray it off? I have read both good and poor reviews about the product. my deck is tan colored and I would like to bring it back to new looking. is there any guarantee on the product?

      Hi Alan,
Wet & Forget works over time with the wind and the rain, so if the surface won’t ever get hit by rain then you’ll need to help along the cleaning process. Periodically, you would want to take the hose on a jet setting and rinse the surface down to help remove the staining. I would give your application a week to start working and then once a week I would rinse the surface with water from a hose to keep the cleaning process going. We absolutely stand behind our products, feel free to give us a call at 888-727-8524 if you have any more questions.

What is the best hose-end sprayer to use for a steep roof? I purchased two different ones and have not been satisfied with the application with either one. Getting expensive to get coverage.

      Hi Paul,
Unfortunately Wet & Forget cannot be applied with a hose-end type sprayer as these sprayers will over dilute the product. To apply Wet & Forget to higher areas, check out Trombone Sprayers. Trombone Sprayers work similar to the type of squirt gun that you pull apart and push back together and will get you a much greater distance than a garden pump sprayer.

      Hi Misty,
Wet & Forget will definitely take care of the moss problem on your pontoon boat carpet and underneath the diving board. For best results, you want to completely saturate the surfaces and apply a good amount to the moss so that Wet & Forget can reach the roots of the growth. Over time you’ll see the moss brown off and lighten up until it’s completely gone.

What is the correct order to apply wet & forget? before Woodlife Classic or after?

Here’s my application: I’ve maintain ed bright, silvery weathered wood decks for 25 years. I use woodlife because it waterproofs and beads water but doesn’t alter the silver gray patina like other finishes. However, it doesn’t prevent mold, mildew or algae growth. That’s where wet & forget is fantastic! Last spring I scrubbed the decks with w&F (yes, I know this is not the correct method) and was unhappy with it’s dirt cleaning properties. So, I scrubbed them again with my tried & true TSp & weak bleach solution. Nice and Clean. Then, Come fall, a big surprise: Wet & forget did it’s job and kept the mold, mildew and algae off the deck! So, I applied another coat to work its magic over the winter. This spring, the decks are even brighter!

So, I just cleaned my decks with tsp & bleach. What should I apply next, Wet & forget or Woodlife? Thanks!

(Sorry If this is in all caps. It wouldn’t let me switch.)

      Hi Steve,
I’m happy you’ve had great results keeping your deck clean with Wet & Forget. I would apply the seal and at the next first sign of growth I would apply Wet & Forget. If you seal on top of Wet & Forget, the product won’t be able to work with the wind and the rain to clean the surface.

Can I use wet and forget on a copper colored metal roof. If so, will it clean off tree sap?

      Hi Amanda,
Wet & Forget is safe to use on copper colored metal roofs, but you are not going to have any results as Wet & Forget only cleans moss, mold, mildew, and algae stains and these types of growths are not found on copper surfaces. Unfortunately you won’t have results on tree sap either. Sorry!
