Fun Fridays: Some Fun Facts About Mackinac Island

Welcome to the first post in our series, Fun Fridays! If you’ve been following us recently, you know that we just applied Wet & Forget to a variety of historical surfaces on Mackinac Island. After spending some time on Mackinac we learned some really unique facts that we thought we’d share with you today.
- Mackinac is the place to be if you’re looking for fresh air. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the island. Travel is done via horse and buggy.
- Mackinac became a popular tourist area in the mid 1800s.
- There are approximately 600 horses on the island.
- Only about 400 people live in Mackinac year-round, but 4,000 workers come to the island for the summer tourist season.

- Each summer Mackinac Island gets about 700,000 tourists.
- No large franchises or hotel chains here; all the hotels and shops on the island are family owned and operated.
- Mackinac has over 30 miles of riding trails.
- Are you an experience rider? If so, the best time to head over to Mackinac is right after Labor Day when riders head out early in the morning.
