Fun Fridays: Some Fun Facts About Mackinac Island

Welcome to the first post in our series, Fun Fridays! If you’ve been following us recently, you know that we just applied Wet & Forget to a variety of historical surfaces on Mackinac Island. After spending some time on Mackinac we learned some really unique facts that we thought we’d share with you today.

  1. Mackinac is the place to be if you’re looking for fresh air. No motorized vehicles are allowed on the island. Travel is done via horse and buggy.
  2. Mackinac became a popular tourist area in the mid 1800s.
  3. There are approximately 600 horses on the island.
  4. Only about 400 people live in Mackinac year-round, but 4,000 workers come to the island for the summer tourist season.Mackinac Island
  5. Each summer Mackinac Island gets about 700,000 tourists.
  6. No large franchises or hotel chains here; all the hotels and shops on the island are family owned and operated.
  7. Mackinac has over 30 miles of riding trails.
  8. Are you an experience rider? If so, the best time to head over to Mackinac is right after Labor Day when riders head out early in the morning.Mackinac Island
