How how long does one have to wait before painting or staining wood after applying Wet and Forget?
Sid,
You can paint or stain the wood as soon as Wet & Forget has cleaned off the moss, mold, mildew and algae from the surface. Wet & Forget cannot work from underneath another product, so make sure it has resolved the mold issue before you paint or stain over it. If you have further questions, let us know! Thanks!
Is Wet and Forget safe for concrete pavers? How long does it normally take to see results?
Hi Jeanne,
Thanks for your inquiry! Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on concrete pavers. Wet & Forget is a gentle product with a pH of 8 that can be used on any outdoor surface where you have moss, mold and mildew. Be sure to get a good saturation of the product onto the surface. If you have green moss or mold on the concrete pavers, you can expect to start seeing results in a couple months. If you have a green growth on the concrete pavers, you can expect to start seeing results in 3-4 weeks. Wet & Forget needs contact with water or rainfall in order to work properly. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
I have squirrels, birds, chipmunks, who dine at my house regularly. I need to know how toxic it is to animals if you can’t monitor their wherabouts.
Hi Virginia,
Thanks for your inquiry! When applying Wet & Forget we recommend keeping people and pets off of the surface until it dries. Once Wet & Forget is dry, it is safe for people and pets to be on the surface. The drying time for Wet & Forget is similar to that of water. At the most, the surface will need to dry for 4-5 hours after application. Even if you have subsequent rainfalls where the surface gets wet again, it is safe for people and pets at that time as well. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
I just put an application on my patio pavers…we haven’t had rain in quite awhile…should I just leave it or should I hose the patio down?
Hi Kathie,
Thanks for your inquiry. When applying Wet & Forget in areas that will not receive rainfall, you do need to provide some assistance by spraying the areas down with water every couple of weeks.
A good rule of thumb to follow to determine if your area is getting enough rain is:
If you are not expecting rain for the next 2-3 weeks, you will be fine.
If you are not expecting rain for the next 2-3 months, then you will need to hose down the area with water.
If you are not getting enough rain, we recommend hosing the area down once a week or once every 2 weeks to help the product along. You do not need a power washer, just spraying the area down with a garden hose will work fine. If you have any further questions, please let us know. Thanks!
I would like to know what the active ingredients are in Wet & Forget. My large Trex deck is situated in the Pacific Northwest woods with edible gardens all around. I’ve never used ‘toxic’ chemicals on my land. My deck is deadly slippery with mildew and has to be cleaned. Is this an appropriate product that I can use without scrubbing first? Thank you.
I have a removable canvas boat top that has black mildew stains. Your site says this product is safe for sails and canvas. Is that correct? I can’t find any instructions on how to treat it on your site. Can I submerge it in a tub of diluted Wet & Forget and hang it outside? Thanks.
Hi Sarah,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Wet & Forget is a product that has a pH of 8, which means it will not harm any outdoor surface you apply it to. You can definitely use it to clean the moss, mold and mildew from your Trex decking. The active ingredient can be found on the lower left hand corner of the front label: Alkyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride. This active ingredient is found in many household cleaners you have around your home. Just dilute Wet & Forget 5:1 in a pump up garden sprayer, spray it on and that’s it! You do not need to scrub or rinse the product.
Make sure you have at least 5 hours drying time before you expect your next rain so that the Wet & Forget can dry properly. Wet & Forget will work with the rain to gently clean the surface. Also, if you have delicate plants or flowers next to your deck, protect them from overspray when you apply the product. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
Hi Harry,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on your canvas boat cover that has black mildew stains. To apply Wet & Forget, dilute 5:1 with water in a pump up garden sprayer. Spray the Wet & Forget on to the boat cover when it is dry. Make sure you get a good saturation of Wet & Forget on the boat cover when you apply it. Then let the Wet & Forget dry. It usually takes 4-5 hours to dry. After that, just leave it. Do not rinse. Wet & Forget will work with the rain to gently clean the mold and mildew from your boat cover. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
Hi There, I have a screened porch with a wood tounge and groove catheadral ceiling and an screened gable end. The spruce rafters and the pine tounge and grooved roof deack are untreated and grow mildew that I have to spray with a 50/50 bleach and water mix every 2-4 years to keep it from turning black. Would this be an appropriate application? The ceiling never really gets wet –unless it is raining and windy; although it can get quite humid in August in Boston. Clearly, overhead spraing requires an extra-long sprayer-wand and extra precautions…. Many thanks for your guidance!
Hi Don,
Thanks for writing in with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on your pine deck and screened in porch ceiling. However, because the areas are not exposed directly to the rain, it will take some additional assistance on your part. For using Wet & Forget on areas not exposed to rain, you will need to spray the area down with water about every 1 to 2 weeks for 3 to 4 applications. This will simulate natural rainfall and help the Wet & Forget clean the area properly. You can still apply this fall, as long as the temperature during application and drying time is above 32 degrees. Since you are applying Wet & Forget above your head, we would recommend reading and following the safety precautions on the label. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
We have a pontoon boat and the seats are an light cream color. They now have black spots all over and NOTHING can take them out. Is it safe to use on a boat where there is carpet? Would we dilute wet & forget? Please advise.
Hi Mandy,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on outdoor seating and indoor/outdoor carpet. When you apply Wet & Forget to the vinyl seating, we would recommend rinsing the seats off with water the day after application before people sit on the cushions. Per our labeling, you will need to apply the Wet & Forget when the pontoon boat is out of the water. Once the Wet & Forget has dried, you can put the pontoon boat back in the water. We would recommend applying Wet & Forget before you put your pontoon in the water for the boating season. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
Thank you!
Hi,
We live in the Pacific NW. Our cedar home was stripped and restained last year. It is turning black in areas already. Would this product work to remove it? Also would it prevent this from happening? Also, would this be good for our vinyl boat seats? We have a few mold spots?
Thank you.
Hi Kerri,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on cedar shake shingles or siding to clean off moss, mold, mildew or algae. Once Wet & Forget cleans up the mold and mildew, you can expect to re-apply every 12-18 months. If the black stains you are experiencing are any type of organic growth, Wet & Forget will do a great job of cleaning up the surfaces.
You can use Wet & Forget on vinyl seating as well. Per our labeling, we recommend applying the Wet & Forget to the vinyl seating when the boat is out of the water. Once the Wet & Forget dries, you can put the boat back in the water again. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
We have an indoor water area with a gridded tile floor, i.e. water drains through down to concrete and then to main drain. Could we use Wet & Forget indoors to reduce the algae/mold growth between the floor and concrete and in the drains?
Hi Marsha,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Wet & Forget is specifically formulated and registered for outdoor use only. Wet & Forget is a pH 8 product that works over time with the wind and rain to clean moss, mold, and mildew from outdoor surfaces. We would not recommend using Wet & Forget indoors. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
I live 20 miles from the upper NW corner of lower 48 and have a I have a plastic greenhouse that becomes coated and fogged with moss every couple years. Will this prevent regrowth or will Wet and Forget not be able to cling to it well enough?
Hi Barb,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on your plastic greenhouse to eliminate moss. Wet & Forget works with the wind and rain to breakdown the moss and leave you with a completely clean surface. Because you’ve eliminated the food source for the new spores that land on the roof, it will stay cleaner for a longer period of time. At the first sign of moss re-growth you simply apply Wet & Forget to the entire surface once again to eliminate the newly building food source. With moss it’s key to completely saturate the moss to the point Wet & Forget comes in contact with the surface. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
Hi
I have an outdoor dry laid brick patio with a wall around it, so it stays moist more than I would like it to, and it tends to get black and green mold. I clean it with a bleach-based mold cleaner and a brush every few weeks — which is a lot of work. I just cleaned it again, and frustrated, did some search found your product on the internet. If, now that it’s cleaned, I apply Wet and Forget, what can I expect? Will Wet and Forget let me go months instead of weeks before scrubbing it again? Thanks.
Hi Doug,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Wet & Forget will work on the mold and mildew on your outdoor brick patio and wall. It would be a great alternative to the bleach product you are currently using, as it will properly clean the mold and mildew from the surface. On average, most people only re-apply Wet & Forget every 12-18 months. Wet & Forget also does not require any scrubbing, rinsing or power washing. You can apply Wet & Forget now if you want. What it will do is clean off any remaining parts of the mold and mildew your bleach based cleaner could not reach. Or you can wait until the mold re-appears again in a few weeks and apply Wet & Forget at that time to clean the surface. Either way, using Wet & Forget will save you a lot of cleaning time in the future. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
The asphalt shingles on my house are starting to get dark stains from algae growth. I assume your product will work on shingles, is that correct? Is it to late in the year to apply Wet&Grow for this type of application in northern Minnesota? Do you have any tips for getting the best results for my problem? How often will I need to apply Wet&Grow to keep the roof looking good? Thanks for your help.
Hi Doug,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget to clean moss, mold, mildew and algae off of any type of roofing, including shingles. Wet & Forget can be applied at any temp above 32 degrees, so you can apply now and well into the fall season. Just dilute 1 part Wet & Forget with 5 parts water in a pump up garden sprayer and spray it on. No rinsing or scrubbing required. Wet & Forget works with the wind and rain over time to gently clean off moss, mold, mildew and algae. Wet & Forget is best applied on an overcast day or in the cooler morning or evening hours. Make sure you will not have any rain in the 4-5 hour drying time after application. Be sure to saturate the shingles with the product, as asphalt shingles tend to soak up a lot of the solution. On average, people do a second application 12-18 months later, or when the algae starts to appear again. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
we bought an old boat that has mildew on some of the ceiling fabric, can I try the Wet and Forget on it, and
if so how? Thanks.
Hi Grace,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on the fabric of your boat. Wet & Forget is a gentle process that works over time with the wind and rain. We do recommend following the application instructions on our label and apply the Wet & Forget to your boat when it is out of the water. Once the Wet & Forget has dried, you can put the boat back in the water again. The best time to apply Wet & Forget is prior to putting your boat into the water for the season. That way the exposure to water and rain during the boating season will work with the Wet & Forget to clean the mold and mildew from the surface. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know. Thank you!
I have two questions
(1)I am preparing an area for a new lawn and over the winter it has grown a lot of moss. Can I use wet and forget to kill the moss before I replant the lawn
(2) Can I use wet and forget to kill off patches of moss in an existing lawns or will it also kill the lawn or is their a concentration that will knock off the moss and leave the lawn unharmed
Hi Brendan,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Wet & Forget is specifically formulated for outdoor surfaces (such as roofing, decks, siding, etc) where you have moss, mold and mildew problems. We would not recommend applying Wet & Forget to your lawn or turf areas. If you have any further questions or concerns, please let us know.
I have a white asphalt shingle roof that has been stained by algae over the years. I have periodically used bleach and a brush to clean most of it away but their are underlying black stain blotches all over the roof that the bleach will just not remove. Will Wet & Forget remove those stains and restore the roof to it’s natural white color?
Hi Brian,
Thanks for contacting us with your question about using Wet & Forget on your white asphalt shingle roof. If the black stains you are seeing are from the algae, moss, mold or mildew growth, then yes Wet & Forget will be able to clean those up. However, if the black stains are due to inorganic issues such as the shingles degrading, sap from overhanging trees, etc. Wet & Forget will not work on those stains. Wet & Forget is designed to work with the wind and rain to remove organic growths and stains. If you have any further questions, please let us know.
1. Can I use Wet and Forget on pressure treated wood fence? Its about a year old and I have black stains on it.
2. Can I use this your product on my roof after I have already used a fungicide, which didn’t really work or should I wait till spring? The fungicide was a Potassium soap of fatty acids: 22.11%. Thank you
Hi Jim,
Thanks for writing in! Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on a pressure treated wood fence. It will work on any black mold or mildew you have on the surface. You can also use it on your roof even if you have already applied another cleaning product. In fact, fall is a great time to apply because the fall winds, rains, snow and sleet will have a chance to work with the Wet & Forget to clean the areas up for the spring season. You can apply Wet & Forget at any temperature above 32 degrees, so now is the time to get it done! To read more about applying Wet & Forget in the fall, click here.
I see from your comments above that Wet & Forget works well on canvas. I would like to use it on my popup camper canvas sides and the front and rear wings that cover the bedding areas. Since we will be sleeping in it I would like to know if it puts off any unpleasant odor. Also there if there is any inhalation hazard while sleeping in it for 6 hrs or so. Thank you
Hi Mike,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. Yes, you can use Wet & Forget on outdoor canvas, including the canvas areas of your popup camper. We would recommend applying the Wet & Forget when you are not currently using the camper, and letting it dry completely before using the camper afterwards. Drying time for the product is about 4 to 5 hours. Wet & Forget does have a slight odor when you apply it. Once it has dried, the odor is no longer present. The best time to apply is before the camping season, so that the Wet & Forget is exposed to the wind and rain, which helps the cleaning process.
Hi there, I have a canvas tent with mould on it.I have sprayed it with wet and forget. Do I let it dry or do I rinse it off with water??
Hi Don!
Thank you for posting to the Wet & Forget blog. Wet & Forget needs approx. 4-5 hours drying time before a rain. If you plan to simulate rain with a garden hose or pump up sprayer I’d wait about a week after application before wetting the surface. Continue this routine every 7-10 days until the surface is completely clean.
I have 2 questions:
1. I understand it has to be applied when the temperature is above 32 degrees, but what if the temp drops down a few days or a week after it’s applied?
2. We’re looking to apply this to the underside of a raised wood deck. Will we have to spray it down with water occasionally?
Thank you
Hi Dawn,
Thanks for contacting us with your questions. It just needs to be above 32 degrees while you apply Wet & Forget and while it dries. The drying time usually takes 4 to 5 hours. After that, if the temperatures turn colder, it will not affect the product.
If you are applying to an area that does not receive direct contact with rainfall, you will need to water down the area every week or two to simulate natural rainfall. This will help the cleaning process. You can use your pump sprayer or garden hose. Continue these waterings until the mold and mildew disappear.
What surfaces should we avoid with Wet & Forget?
Thanks.
Hi Janet,
Thanks for contacting us with your question. You can use Wet & Forget on any outdoor surface where you have moss, mold, mildew or algae. Wet & Forget is a gentle cleaning product with a pH of 8, which means it will not harm or discolor surfaces you apply it to. Wet & Forget works with the wind and rain over time to remove moss, mold, mildew and algae.
Is Wet & Forget an EPA registered product? When can I find convincing data to make me believe it is going to work? I have tried quite a few similar products which performed far under what they claimed. Thanks!
Hi Joshua,
Thanks for writing in with your questions. Yes, Wet & Forget is an EPA registered product in all 50 states. You can find our EPA registration number on the bottom of the front label on our bottles. Wet & Forget is a great solution for your outdoor moss, mold and mildew problems. Simply dilute in a pump up garden sprayer and spray it on the surface. Then let Mother Nature do the rest of the work. Wet & Forget works gently over time with the elements (wind and rain) to remove moss, mold and mildew from the surface.
